Me in a nutshell: Honest, Dynamic, Driven, Social, Leader My name is Joeri Corbet, I am twenty-four years old and I just graduated as a maritime officer at the university of applied sciences in Flushing. I am much concerned with doing different kinds of sports, listening to the people around me and trying to learn from their experiences. I also like to be busy with technical jobs, such as doing maintenance on my motorbike. During my education we were given a chance to make the ‘REISS PROFILE’ test. This was a test to show what my basic drives are. The result showed that I am a versatile person, because I have almost no extreme basic drives. This means that I can go along with many different types of persons. As a new crewmember on a ship, it is essential to gain as much experience as possible and become confident in oneself and all necessary skills. I am usually very curious and can come up with challenging questions. One of my qualities is that I work well both when working in a group and when I work alone. I can quite easily go along with a group of people as well as taking charge of them. Previously, together with a supervising teacher, I had given some sports- and religion- lessons in college for some time. At those times, it is necessary to keep an overview on the group and yet pay attention to everyone else personally. This is one of my strengths. After 10 months of sailing, I still enjoy being on the move. I love the independency and responsibility you get on a ship. I can often keep enjoying myself when there is not a lot of people around me. I used to be a member of the Sea Scouts. There was always a certain amount of competition and ranks. In the beginning, I had to get used to this, but now I have a good experience with hierarchy. Since those days the love for sailing has been growing and the fun of sailing made me push through the first few years. And now the love for sailing is still growing bigger every day. I am glad to have made my profession out of my hobby.
